Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients:

  • 3/4 Cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 Cup white whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 Cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients:

  • 6 Tablespoons butter, cold and cut into pieces
  • 1/2 Cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Add-Ins:

  • 1 Cup chopped apple
  • 1 Cup confectioner’s sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and line a baking sheet with a silicone mat.
  2. Prepare the Batter: In a large bowl, mix the dry ingredients and cut in the butter until it resembles coarse crumbs. In a separate bowl, whisk together the wet ingredients and add to the flour mixture. Stir in the chopped apple.
  3. Bake the Fritters: Drop the batter onto the baking sheet and bake for 11-13 minutes until golden brown.
  4. Make the Glaze: Combine confectioner’s sugar, milk, and vanilla to make the glaze. Brush the fritters with the glaze and broil for 2-4 minutes until golden.
  5. Serve: Let the fritters cool and the glaze harden before serving.

Notes

  • For best results, use apples that hold their shape when baked, such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp.
  • Feel free to add chopped nuts or raisins to the batter for extra texture and flavor.
  • These fritters are best enjoyed warm on the day they are made.
