Ingredients

Scale

Bon Bon Base

  • 12.2 ounces Oreos (Winter edition with red filling recommended)
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened

Chocolate Coating and Decoration

  • 4 ounces dark chocolate melting wafers (Ghirardelli recommended)
  • Small handful of chocolate chips
  • Tiny pinch of fleur de sel per ball
  • Sprinkles (optional, for decoration)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the base: Line a cookie sheet with wax paper, parchment paper, or a silicone mat and set aside.
  2. Crush the Oreos: Process the Oreos in a food processor until fine crumbs form, resembling sand. Alternatively, place Oreos in a zip-top bag and crush with a rolling pin.
  3. Mix crumbs with cream cheese: Transfer the crumbs to a stand mixer bowl, add the softened cream cheese, and mix thoroughly until fully combined into a dough-like mixture.
  4. Form the balls: Use a cookie scoop to portion the mixture and roll into balls by hand if needed. Place the balls on the prepared sheet; you should get about 25 balls.
  5. Freeze to firm: Freeze the balls on the sheet for at least 30 minutes until firm enough to handle.
  6. Smooth and salt: Remove from freezer, gently roll the balls between your hands to smooth the surface, then sprinkle a tiny pinch of fleur de sel on each ball. Return to freezer while preparing chocolate.
  7. Melt the chocolate coating: In a microwave-safe bowl, heat the dark chocolate wafers for 30 seconds, stir, then continue heating in 15-second intervals, stirring until completely melted.
  8. Dip the balls: Remove the balls from the freezer, insert a toothpick into each as a handle, and swirl in the melted chocolate, using a spatula to coat evenly. Work quickly to prevent balls from warming and slipping off the toothpick. Return to freezer if necessary.
  9. Harden the coating: Place the coated bon bons in the refrigerator to set the chocolate shell faster.
  10. Prepare drizzle chocolate: Microwave the chocolate chips in a small bowl for 30 seconds, stir, then another 15 seconds if needed. Allow to cool slightly.
  11. Decorate the bon bons: Spoon the melted chocolate into a plastic bag, snip a small corner, and drizzle over the bon bons. Add sprinkles immediately before the drizzle sets, if desired.
  12. Storage: Keep the bon bons refrigerated until ready to serve to maintain firmness and freshness.

Notes

  • Using Winter edition Oreos with red filling adds holiday color, but classic Oreos work just as well.
  • Ensure cream cheese is softened for easier mixing and smoother texture.
  • Work quickly when dipping to keep the balls cold and ensure the chocolate coating adheres properly.
  • For clean drizzle lines, chill the chocolate drizzle briefly before using.
  • Store bon bons in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
