Ingredients

Scale

Brownie Base

  • 275 g (1 1/3 cup) butter, softened
  • 375 g (1 1/3 cup) caster sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 75 g (½ cup) cocoa powder
  • 100 g (¾ cup) self-raising flour
  • 100 g (2/3 cup) chocolate chips

Decoration

  • 30 icing eyes
  • 15 red Smarties
  • 30 small pretzels

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 180°C (160°C Fan / 375°F) and grease and line a 30×23 cm baking tin with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  2. Measure Ingredients: Gather all the brownie ingredients carefully to ensure accurate measurements for the perfect texture.
  3. Mix Ingredients: Add all brownie ingredients to a large mixing bowl or a freestanding mixer bowl, one by one.
  4. Combine Batter: Use a hand mixer, wooden spoon, or the paddle attachment of your freestanding mixer to mix the ingredients until fully combined into a smooth batter.
  5. Transfer to Tin: Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking tin. Use a spatula to spread and level the batter evenly into the corners.
  6. Bake Brownies: Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes. If the top starts browning too quickly, cover with foil for the last 10-15 minutes to prevent burning.
  7. Check Doneness: The brownies are ready when they have formed a crust on top and a skewer inserted in the center comes out relatively clean. A few moist crumbs are fine if you prefer fudgier brownies.
  8. Cool and Cut: Allow the brownies to cool completely in the tin. Once cooled, remove and cut into 15-20 squares depending on your desired size.
  9. Decorate Reindeer: Push one small pretzel into each side of a brownie square for the ears. Use a small dab of melted chocolate or icing to stick on the icing eyes and a red Smartie for the nose on each brownie, creating cute reindeer faces.

Notes

  • Ensure the butter is softened but not melted for better mixing.
  • If you prefer a sweeter or more intense chocolate flavor, you can add extra chocolate chips or use bittersweet cocoa powder.
  • For easier decoration, melt a small amount of chocolate in the microwave to use as edible glue.
  • Brownie doneness can vary by oven; start checking at 35 minutes to prevent overbaking.
  • Store leftover brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
