A delicious and easy homemade version of McDonald’s famous McGriddle breakfast sandwiches featuring fluffy maple syrup-infused pancakes as buns, savory sausage patties, folded eggs, crispy bacon, and melty cheese for a perfect morning meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Egg Mixture

  • 6 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 tablespoons butter (divided)

Pancakes

  • 1 and 1/3 cup flour
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1.5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2.5 tablespoons maple syrup
  • Pinch of salt

Meats & Cheese

  • 1-pound ground breakfast sausage
  • 8 slices cooked bacon
  • 4 slices cheese (American or cheddar)

Instructions

  1. Cook Sausage Patties: Form 4 patties with the ground breakfast sausage. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and cook each patty for about 3 minutes per side, or until thoroughly cooked. Remove from heat and set aside. If using bacon, cook bacon slices now until crisp.
  2. Prepare Egg Mixture: In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, 1 cup milk, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until fully combined.
  3. Cook Folded Eggs: Heat 1 tablespoon butter in a large skillet over medium-low heat. Pour in ¼ of the egg mixture and let it cook flat without stirring, like an omelet. Lightly season with salt and pepper. Cook for 1 to 2 minutes until the edges set and the eggs can be flipped easily.
  4. Fold and Shape Eggs: Flip the eggs and cook for an additional minute until fully cooked. Then fold the edges inward to form a rectangle, fold top and bottom in toward the middle to create a square stack. Remove from skillet and repeat with remaining egg mixture and butter to yield 4 folded egg squares.
  5. Make Pancakes: Combine flour, milk, melted butter, egg, baking powder, maple syrup, and salt in a large bowl. Beat well until smooth batter forms.
  6. Cook Pancakes: Butter a skillet over medium heat. Pour about 3 tablespoons of batter per pancake, fitting 2-3 pancakes per batch without crowding. Cook for 2 minutes until bubbles form on the surface, then flip carefully and cook an additional minute until golden and cooked through. Repeat until you have 8 pancakes.
  7. Assemble McGriddles: Start with one pancake as the base, layer a slice of cheese, a cooked sausage patty, a folded egg square, 2 slices of bacon, and top with another pancake. Repeat assembly for all 4 sandwiches.

Notes

  • You can substitute turkey sausage for a leaner option.
  • Make sure to use real maple syrup or pure maple syrup in the pancake batter for authentic flavor.
  • Eggs are folded into squares for easy stacking and cooking consistency.
  • Use American cheese for a classic melty texture or cheddar for sharper flavor.
  • These sandwiches can be wrapped and refrigerated for up to 2 days and warmed before eating.
