This homemade French Fry Seasoning is a perfectly balanced blend of spices designed to elevate any fries, whether fresh-cut or frozen. With a mix of paprika, garlic, onion, and a touch of cayenne for optional heat, this versatile seasoning adds a deliciously savory kick to your fries. Easy to prepare and store, it works well with oven-baked, air-fried, or deep-fried potatoes.

Ingredients

Scale

Spices

  • 1 tablespoon + 1 teaspoon fine salt or table salt
  • 2 tablespoons paprika
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon finely ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1/2 teaspoon celery salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)

Instructions

  1. Mix the Seasoning: Combine all the ingredients listed in a clean, airtight container, preferably glass. Use a small whisk or fork to thoroughly mix the spices until evenly blended.
  2. Store the Seasoning: Seal the container tightly and store it in a cool, dark place to maintain freshness and flavor for up to several months.
  3. Use the Seasoning: Use 2-3 teaspoons of the seasoning per pound of fries, adjusting the amount to taste.
  4. Seasoning Fresh Fries:
Oven-Baked: Place cut fries on a rimmed sheet pan, lightly drizzle with oil, sprinkle with the seasoning, and toss until evenly coated. Bake as desired.
Air-Fried: Toss cut fries in a large bowl with oil and seasoning, then air fry according to your air fryer’s instructions.
Deep-Fried: Fry fries until golden. Immediately after frying, transfer fries to a paper towel-lined plate and sprinkle with seasoning while still hot to ensure it sticks.
  5. Seasoning Frozen Fries:
Oven-Baked: Bake fries as per package instructions. About 5 minutes before finishing, lightly spritz fries with cooking spray, sprinkle seasoning evenly, toss carefully, and return to oven to finish.
Air-Fried: Air fry as directed. A few minutes before done, mist fries with cooking spray, sprinkle seasoning, shake the basket to coat, and finish cooking.
Deep-Fried: Fry as directed. Immediately after frying, transfer fries to paper towels and sprinkle with seasoning to taste.

Notes

  • Adjust cayenne pepper amount or omit entirely based on your heat preference.
  • Store seasoning in an airtight container away from light and moisture for optimal shelf life.
  • For best results, apply seasoning when fries are hot to help it stick better.
  • This seasoning blend can also enhance popcorn, roasted vegetables, or grilled meats.
  • Use cooking spray lightly to help seasoning adhere when using frozen fries.
