Ingredients

Scale

Vegetables

  • 4 cups broccoli florets, cut into bite size pieces
  • ½ yellow onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic (2 cloves minced + 1 clove minced for sauce)
  • Sliced green onions, for garnish

Protein

  • 1 pound lean ground beef

Sauce

  • ½ cup beef broth
  • ⅓ cup soy sauce
  • ¼ cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

Others

  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Rice, for serving

Instructions

  1. Steam broccoli: In a pot fitted with a steamer basket, bring a few inches of water to a boil. Add the broccoli florets and steam for 4-5 minutes until they are tender but still firm. Remove from the steamer basket and set aside.
  2. Sauté beef and onion: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and diced yellow onion, seasoning with salt and pepper to taste. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the beef is fully browned and the onion is softened. Add 2 cloves of minced garlic and sauté for another minute. Reduce the heat to medium-low.
  3. Prepare the sauce: While the beef cooks, whisk together beef broth, soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, 1 clove minced garlic, ground ginger, and cornstarch in a small bowl until smooth.
  4. Combine and cook: Add the steamed broccoli to the skillet with the beef mixture. Pour the sauce over the ingredients and stir well to combine. Continue sautéing over medium-low heat until the sauce thickens and coats the beef and broccoli evenly.
  5. Serve: Serve the Ground Beef and Broccoli over freshly steamed rice. Garnish with sliced green onions and enjoy your flavorful meal!

Notes

  • Use lean ground beef to reduce fat content.
  • Do not oversteam the broccoli; it should remain slightly firm to retain texture.
  • Adjust the brown sugar amount to taste for more or less sweetness.
  • For a gluten-free version, use tamari or a gluten-free soy sauce substitute.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated gently on the stovetop or microwave.
