These Peanut Butter and Pumpkin Soft Treats are wholesome, tasty snacks made with nutritious pumpkin puree and natural peanut butter. Perfect as a healthy homemade option for dog treats, they combine the goodness of whole wheat flour, gentle cinnamon spice, and simple ingredients baked into soft, delicious bites.

Ingredients

Scale

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup pumpkin puree (canned or fresh)
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened, xylitol-free peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup water (as needed)

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure easy cleanup.
  2. Mix Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the pumpkin puree and peanut butter. Stir well until smooth and fully blended. Gradually add the whole wheat flour and cinnamon, mixing to form a dough. If the dough is too dry or crumbly, add water a tablespoon at a time until it reaches a workable consistency.
  3. Roll and Cut: Lightly flour a clean surface and roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness. Use your favorite cookie cutters to cut the dough into shapes. Arrange the cutouts on the prepared baking sheet, spaced slightly apart.
  4. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the treats are firm to the touch. Remove from oven and let cool completely on a wire rack before serving or storing.

Notes

  • Ensure peanut butter used is natural and free from xylitol, which is toxic to dogs.
  • Pumpkin puree can be canned or fresh, just make sure it is pure pumpkin and not pumpkin pie filling.
  • If you prefer a grain-free option, substitute whole wheat flour with oat flour or another dog-safe alternative.
  • These treats should be stored in an airtight container and can last up to one week at room temperature or longer if refrigerated.
  • Always introduce new treats gradually to your pet’s diet and observe for any allergies or intolerances.
