For the Dough
- 3/4 tsp active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup lukewarm water (105-115°F)
- 2 tsp melted coconut oil (can substitute with olive oil)
- 1 tsp honey
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
For the Topping
- 1/2 lb whole wheat pizza dough (homemade or store-bought)
- 1/3 cup pumpkin puree (make sure it’s pure pumpkin, not pumpkin pie filling)
- 1/2 cup shredded cheese (mozzarella or cheddar recommended)
- 3/4 cup cooked and chopped chicken breast
For Baking
- Coconut oil (for brushing muffin tins, olive oil can be substituted)
- Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 450°F and lightly brush a mini muffin tin with coconut oil to prevent sticking.
- Shape the Dough: Roll out the whole wheat pizza dough thinly and cut 24 circles around 2 inches in diameter using a cookie cutter or drinking glass. Re-roll scraps as needed.
- Form Cups: Gently press each dough circle into the bottoms and up the sides of the muffin tin cavities to create small cups. If using a 12-cavity tin, bake in two batches.
- Add Toppings: Spoon about 3/4 teaspoon of pumpkin puree into each dough cup. Sprinkle approximately 1 teaspoon of shredded cheese and a few pieces of cooked chopped chicken on top.
- Bake: Place the muffin tin in the oven and bake for 8-10 minutes, until cheese is bubbling and the edges of the dough turn golden brown.
- Cool: Allow the mini pizzas to cool down completely before serving them to your dog.
- Make Whole Wheat Dough (Optional Homemade Dough): In a large bowl, mix the yeast with lukewarm water and let it rest for 2 minutes.
- Add Ingredients: Stir in melted coconut oil and honey into the yeast mixture.
- Mix Flour: Gradually mix in whole wheat flour using a wooden spoon; add an extra tablespoon if dough is too wet. Form a dough ball and knead gently a few times in the bowl.
- Let Dough Rise: Cover the bowl with a kitchen towel and place in a warm area for about 2 hours to let the dough rise before rolling out.
Notes
- Ensure pumpkin puree is pure pumpkin, not pie filling with added sugars and spices.
- You can substitute coconut oil with olive oil if preferred.
- Whole wheat flour can be substituted with other dog-safe flours if your dog has allergies.
- Always allow pizzas to cool thoroughly before offering to your dog to avoid burns.
- This recipe is meant as a treat, not a meal replacement; feed in moderation.
- If using a 12-cavity mini muffin tin, bake in two batches.
