A healthy and delicious homemade pizza recipe specially designed for dogs, using whole wheat dough, pumpkin puree, shredded cheese, and cooked chicken breast. Perfect as a treat or snack that your furry friend will love, made with dog-safe ingredients and no artificial additives.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Dough

  • 3/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup lukewarm water (105-115°F)
  • 2 tsp melted coconut oil (can substitute with olive oil)
  • 1 tsp honey
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour

For the Topping

  • 1/2 lb whole wheat pizza dough (homemade or store-bought)
  • 1/3 cup pumpkin puree (make sure it’s pure pumpkin, not pumpkin pie filling)
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheese (mozzarella or cheddar recommended)
  • 3/4 cup cooked and chopped chicken breast

For Baking

  • Coconut oil (for brushing muffin tins, olive oil can be substituted)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 450°F and lightly brush a mini muffin tin with coconut oil to prevent sticking.
  2. Shape the Dough: Roll out the whole wheat pizza dough thinly and cut 24 circles around 2 inches in diameter using a cookie cutter or drinking glass. Re-roll scraps as needed.
  3. Form Cups: Gently press each dough circle into the bottoms and up the sides of the muffin tin cavities to create small cups. If using a 12-cavity tin, bake in two batches.
  4. Add Toppings: Spoon about 3/4 teaspoon of pumpkin puree into each dough cup. Sprinkle approximately 1 teaspoon of shredded cheese and a few pieces of cooked chopped chicken on top.
  5. Bake: Place the muffin tin in the oven and bake for 8-10 minutes, until cheese is bubbling and the edges of the dough turn golden brown.
  6. Cool: Allow the mini pizzas to cool down completely before serving them to your dog.
  7. Make Whole Wheat Dough (Optional Homemade Dough): In a large bowl, mix the yeast with lukewarm water and let it rest for 2 minutes.
  8. Add Ingredients: Stir in melted coconut oil and honey into the yeast mixture.
  9. Mix Flour: Gradually mix in whole wheat flour using a wooden spoon; add an extra tablespoon if dough is too wet. Form a dough ball and knead gently a few times in the bowl.
  10. Let Dough Rise: Cover the bowl with a kitchen towel and place in a warm area for about 2 hours to let the dough rise before rolling out.

Notes

  • Ensure pumpkin puree is pure pumpkin, not pie filling with added sugars and spices.
  • You can substitute coconut oil with olive oil if preferred.
  • Whole wheat flour can be substituted with other dog-safe flours if your dog has allergies.
  • Always allow pizzas to cool thoroughly before offering to your dog to avoid burns.
  • This recipe is meant as a treat, not a meal replacement; feed in moderation.
  • If using a 12-cavity mini muffin tin, bake in two batches.
