Steak and Seasoning
- 2 lbs. sirloin steak, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1 tsp. salt
- ½ tsp. black pepper
- 1 Tbsp. olive oil
Sauce
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- ½ cup beef stock (or water)
- 1 oz. packet au jus
- 4 Tbsp. salted butter
- Sear the Steak Bites: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the steak bites and season with salt and black pepper. Sear the steak pieces on all sides until browned, about 2 minutes total. To prevent overcrowding and ensure proper browning, sear the steak in batches if necessary.
- Transfer to Slow Cooker: Once all steak bites are browned, transfer them to the slow cooker.
- Add Flavorings: Add the minced garlic, beef stock, and the au jus packet to the slow cooker. Stir gently to combine these ingredients with the meat.
- Add Butter and Cook: Place the 4 tablespoons of salted butter on top of the steak mixture. Cover the slow cooker and cook on LOW heat for 4 hours or on HIGH heat for 2 hours until the steak bites are tender and infused with sauce.
- Serve: Once cooked, serve the steak bites hot with the au jus sauce spooned over. This dish pairs excellently with mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles for a hearty meal. Enjoy!
Notes
- For best results, do not skip searing the steak bites, as it adds depth of flavor.
- You can substitute beef stock with water if preferred, but stock enhances the richness.
- Keep an eye on your slow cooker settings to avoid overcooking; tenderness is key.
- This recipe is versatile and complements a variety of sides such as vegetables or pasta.
