Strawberry Syrup
- 2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- 2 cups water
Strawberry Iced Tea
- 1 cup strawberry syrup (prepared as above)
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup fresh lemon juice
- 5 bags black tea
- 6 cups water, divided
- Ice cubes
- Fresh mint and sliced strawberries (optional garnish)
- Make the strawberry syrup: In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine sliced strawberries, ¾ cup granulated sugar, and 2 cups water. Cook the mixture, stirring occasionally, for about 30 minutes or until the strawberries are soft and the sugar dissolves completely.
- Strain the syrup: Remove the saucepan from heat and strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve into a container, pressing down to extract all the juices. Discard the solids and let the syrup cool completely.
- Brew the tea: In another small saucepan over medium heat, bring 2 cups of water to a rolling boil. Remove from heat and add the black tea bags. Let the tea steep for 5 minutes, then discard the tea bags.
- Sweeten the tea: While the tea is still warm, add ½ cup granulated sugar and stir until fully dissolved.
- Combine ingredients: In a large pitcher, pour the prepared strawberry syrup, the sweetened tea, and the remaining 4 cups of water. Add ½ cup fresh lemon juice and stir well to combine all the flavors.
- Serve: Fill glasses with ice cubes and pour the strawberry iced tea over them. Garnish with fresh mint leaves and sliced strawberries if desired, then serve immediately for a refreshing drink.
Notes
- Use ripe, fresh strawberries for the best flavor in your syrup.
- The syrup can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator for up to one week.
- You can adjust the sweetness by adding more or less sugar according to your taste preference.
- For a caffeine-free version, substitute the black tea bags with herbal tea bags such as rooibos.
- If you prefer a stronger tea flavor, steep the tea bags longer but avoid over-brewing to prevent bitterness.
