For the beef:

  • 500 g steak (thinly sliced)
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 cups flour (seasoned with salt)
  • oil for frying

For the sauce:

  • 1 onion (finely chopped)
  • 3 garlic cloves (crushed)
  • 1/3 cup soy sauce
  • 34 tbsp honey (to taste)
  • 1 tsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp Hoisin sauce / Oyster sauce
  • 1/2 cup water

To serve:

  • 500 g noodles
  • sliced spring onions

Instructions

  1. Prepare the beef: Place the steak in a bowl and add the soy sauce and egg. Mix well and set aside.
  2. Make the sauce: Fry the onion and garlic until fragrant. Add soy sauce, honey, Hoisin/Oyster sauce, vinegar, and water. Simmer until reduced by half, then set aside.
  3. Fry the beef: Heat oil for deep frying. Coat steak strips in seasoned flour and fry until golden and crisp. Drain on kitchen towel.
  4. Combine beef and sauce: Reheat the sauce, add fried beef, and toss to coat. Add cooked noodles and season to taste.
  5. Serve: Garnish with sliced spring onions and enjoy!

  • Make sure the steak is thinly sliced for quick cooking.
  • You can adjust the sweetness of the sauce by adding more or less honey.
