Nutellamisu Recipe

Introduction

Nutellamisu is a delightful twist on the classic Italian dessert, combining creamy mascarpone with rich Nutella for a luscious treat. This no-bake dessert is perfect for Nutella lovers seeking a coffee-infused indulgence that’s easy to assemble and sure to impress.

A white shallow bowl holds a layered dessert with two visible layers: the base is a light tan sponge cake with a soft, porous texture, and the top layer is thick, creamy chocolate mousse with a smooth and slightly swirled surface. The mousse is dusted evenly with dark cocoa powder crumbs. A spoon with a portion of the dessert is placed inside the bowl, showing the texture of both layers. In the background, a large jar of Nutella is partially visible against a soft blue backdrop, all set on a white marbled surface. Photo taken with an iphone --ar 4:5 --v 7

Ingredients

  • 3 cups cold heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 16 ounces mascarpone
  • 2 (13-ounce) containers store-bought Nutella
  • 48 ladyfingers
  • 3 cups cold espresso or strongly brewed coffee
  • 2 tablespoons Frangelico
  • 2 tablespoons espresso powder

Instructions

  1. Step 1: In the large bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the whisk attachment (or using a large bowl and handheld mixer), beat the cold heavy cream and kosher salt on medium speed until soft peaks form. Be careful not to whip the cream to stiff peaks.
  2. Step 2: In a separate large bowl, mix the mascarpone and Nutella until smooth and creamy. Add about one-third of the whipped cream to the mascarpone mixture and gently fold to combine. Then fold this mixture into the remaining whipped cream until well blended.
  3. Step 3: In a shallow dish or long container large enough to fit the ladyfingers, combine the cold espresso and Frangelico. Dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture for about one second to soak lightly without becoming soggy. Line the bottom of a 13″ x 9″ pan with the dipped ladyfingers, fitting two rows of 12 ladyfingers vertically.
  4. Step 4: Spread half of the Nutella-cream mixture evenly over the ladyfingers. Repeat by dipping the remaining ladyfingers and layering them on top, then spreading the remaining cream mixture over the second layer.
  5. Step 5: Refrigerate the Nutellamisu for at least 3 hours or preferably overnight to allow the flavors to meld and the dessert to set. Before serving, dust the top generously with espresso powder.

Tips & Variations

  • For a boozy twist, increase the Frangelico slightly or substitute with Kahlúa or another coffee liqueur.
  • Use fresh brewed espresso cooled to room temperature if you can’t find cold espresso.
  • If you prefer a lighter flavor, reduce the Nutella to one container and increase mascarpone accordingly.
  • Garnish with chocolate shavings or chopped hazelnuts for added texture and presentation.

Storage

Store Nutellamisu covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. It is best enjoyed chilled, and you can let it sit at room temperature for 10-15 minutes before serving for a softer texture. Avoid freezing as it may affect the texture of the mascarpone and cream layers.

How to Serve

The image shows a close-up of a smooth, creamy chocolate mousse layer spread evenly in a clear dish with a white marbled surface underneath. The mousse is light brown with a soft, whipped texture featuring visible swirls and peaks. On top, fine dark brown cocoa powder is being sifted through a metal sieve, creating an even dusting that contrasts with the lighter mousse below. The sieve is positioned at the right upper corner, slightly tilted, with some powder still inside, ready to sprinkle more. photo taken with an iphone --ar 4:5 --v 7

FAQs

Can I use regular milk instead of heavy cream?

No, heavy cream is essential to achieve the right texture and richness in the whipped cream and mascarpone mixture. Using regular milk will not provide the necessary structure.

Do I have to use Frangelico?

Frangelico adds a lovely hazelnut flavor that complements Nutella well, but it is optional. You can omit it or substitute with another coffee or nut-flavored liqueur, or simply use additional espresso if you prefer a non-alcoholic version.

Dairy & Cream

  • 3 cups cold heavy cream
  • 16 oz. mascarpone cheese
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt

Sweeteners & Flavorings

  • 2 (13-oz.) containers store-bought Nutella
  • 2 tbsp Frangelico
  • 2 tbsp espresso powder (for dusting)

Other Ingredients

  • 48 ladyfingers
  • 3 cups cold espresso or strongly brewed coffee

Instructions

  1. Whip the Cream: In the large bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the whisk attachment, or using a large bowl and handheld mixer, beat the cold heavy cream together with kosher salt on medium speed until soft peaks form, ensuring you do not overbeat to stiff peaks.
  2. Prepare Nutella Mascarpone Mixture: In a separate large bowl, combine the mascarpone cheese and Nutella until smooth. Add about one-third of the whipped cream to this mixture and gently fold to combine. Then fold this mascarpone mixture into the remaining whipped cream to create a light and creamy filling.
  3. Soak Ladyfingers: In a shallow dish or long container large enough to fit the ladyfingers, mix the cold espresso or strong coffee with the Frangelico liqueur. Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture for about one second, ensuring they are soaked but not soggy.
  4. Assemble the Tiramisu: Arrange the dipped ladyfingers in two vertical rows of twelve each, lining the bottom of a 13″ x 9″ pan. Spread half of the Nutella mascarpone cream mixture evenly over the ladyfingers. Repeat the process with the remaining dipped ladyfingers and top with the remaining cream mixture.
  5. Chill and Serve: Refrigerate the assembled tiramisu for at least 3 hours or up to overnight to allow the flavors to meld and the dessert to set. Before serving, dust the top with espresso powder to finish.

Notes

  • For best results, use cold heavy cream and cold espresso to help the ingredients blend well and the layers set properly.
  • Do not over-soak the ladyfingers to avoid a soggy dessert; a quick dip is sufficient.
  • This dessert can be prepared a day ahead and refrigerated overnight for enhanced flavor.
  • Substitute Frangelico with hazelnut syrup for a non-alcoholic option.
  • Use high-quality Nutella and fresh mascarpone for richer, authentic flavor.
