Ingredients

Scale

Cookie Dough

  • 1 cup salted sweet cream butter (softened)
  • ⅔ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg (room temperature)
  • 1 tsp clear vanilla flavoring
  • 1 tsp almond extract
  • 2¼ cup all-purpose flour

Decoration

  • 8 ounce bag red candy melts
  • 8 ounce bag green candy melts
  • nonpareil sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it’s ready for baking the cookies evenly.
  2. Cream Butter. Using a stand mixer or handheld mixer on medium-high speed in a medium bowl, beat the softened butter for 1 to 1½ minutes until smooth and creamy.
  3. Add Sugar. Add the granulated sugar and continue mixing for another minute to incorporate and lighten the mixture.
  4. Mix Wet Ingredients. Add the egg, clear vanilla flavoring, and almond extract. Mix on medium-low speed until all liquids are well combined.
  5. Incorporate Flour. Gradually add the all-purpose flour and mix on low speed just until the flour is fully incorporated into a smooth dough.
  6. Shape Cookies. Fit a cookie press with a decorative disk and fill the press tube with the dough. Press the dough onto an ungreased baking sheet, spacing each cookie 2 inches apart. Optionally, sprinkle some cookies with nonpareil sprinkles before baking.
  7. Bake. Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 8 minutes until edges are set but cookies remain pale and soft.
  8. Cool. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. Melt Candy. Divide the red candy melts and green candy melts into two separate heat-safe bowls (half each). Microwave each bowl for 1 minute, stir, then continue microwaving in 20-second intervals, stirring after each until smooth and fully melted.
  10. Dip Cookies. Dip each cookie halfway into the desired color of melted candy. Place the dipped cookies on parchment paper.
  11. Decorate and Set. Immediately sprinkle the dipped part with nonpareil sprinkles. Allow the candy coating to fully harden before serving or storing.

Notes

  • Make sure the butter and egg are at room temperature to ensure proper mixing and smooth dough.
  • If you don’t have a cookie press, you can pipe the dough using a large star tip.
  • Work quickly when dipping cookies into candy melts to avoid the coating hardening too soon.
  • Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.
  • Allow candy coating to fully set before stacking cookies to prevent sticking.
