Ingredients

Scale

Salad Ingredients

  • 1 small watermelon, cut into 1/2″-thick squares (about 3″ x 3″)
  • 1 mozzarella ball, sliced into 1/2“-thick slices
  • 2 tbsp. thinly sliced fresh basil
  • Flaky sea salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

For Serving

  • Extra-virgin olive oil, for drizzling
  • Balsamic glaze, for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Prepare Watermelon and Mozzarella: Cut the watermelon into 1/2-inch thick squares approximately 3 inches by 3 inches. Slice the mozzarella ball into 1/2-inch thick slices to match the watermelon size.
  2. Assemble the Salad: On a serving platter, alternately arrange the watermelon squares and mozzarella slices to create a visually appealing pattern. Sprinkle the thinly sliced fresh basil evenly over the arranged slices.
  3. Season: Lightly season the layered watermelon and mozzarella with flaky sea salt and freshly ground black pepper to enhance the flavors.
  4. Finish with Drizzles: Drizzle extra-virgin olive oil and balsamic glaze evenly over the salad to add richness and a tangy-sweet element.

Notes

  • Use a ripe, seedless watermelon for the best taste and ease of cutting.
  • Fresh mozzarella should be at room temperature for optimal flavor and texture.
  • Balsamic glaze can be substituted with a balsamic reduction or vinegar, but glaze offers a sweeter finish.
  • Optionally, add a sprinkle of cracked black pepper or chili flakes for a spicy kick.
  • This salad is best served immediately to maintain freshness and avoid sogginess.
