Ingredients

Scale

Dough and Assembly

  • All-purpose flour, for dusting
  • 8 oz. tube crescent roll dough
  • 1 large egg, beaten to blend
  • Flaky sea salt, for sprinkling

Filling

  • 8 all-beef frankfurter hot dogs

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dough: Preheat the oven to 375°F and arrange a rack in the center. Lightly dust a clean surface with flour and use your fingers to gently spread the crescent roll dough into a rectangle. Pinch the seams together to seal and roll out with a rolling pin to about 10 inches by 8 inches.
  2. Slice dough into strips: Cut the dough lengthwise into eight strips, each approximately 1 inch wide. Transfer seven of the strips to a parchment-lined baking sheet, laying them flat and spaced to weave the hot dogs.
  3. Weave the hot dogs: Starting with the left side, fold back every other dough strip to expose the parchment. Lay a hot dog horizontally over the exposed strips. Unfold the folded strips back over the hot dog to secure it. Then fold back the alternate strips and place another hot dog next to the first, weaving all eight hot dogs into the dough lattice.
  4. Secure and brush dough: Cut the remaining dough strip in half crosswise. Wrap each half around the left and right edges of the woven hot dogs, pinching the dough to seal any openings and trimming excess for a neat rectangle. Brush the entire surface with the beaten egg wash and sprinkle flaky sea salt evenly over the top.
  5. Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 18 to 20 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and cooked through.
  6. Serve: Let the pigs in a quilt cool slightly, then cut into bite-sized pieces and transfer to a serving platter.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, try brushing the dough with melted butter mixed with garlic powder before baking.
  • Use spicy or flavored sausages for a different taste profile.
  • These can be prepared ahead and baked just before serving.
  • Serve with mustard, ketchup, or your favorite dipping sauce.
